What do a casual conversation yesterday and a TEDx podcast this morning have in common ? It’s surprisingly design thinking.
I’m currently looking at different career options and I’m finding design thinking an interesting approach to reflect on what I’d do next.
The podcast I listened to was about the same topic of this article by Bill Burnett one of the authors of Design your life. He gives a 5 steps process to implement design thinking process in your life. How to use design thinking to create a happier life for yourself.
My best part is Designing your life idea #3: Brainstorm your possible futures and make three Odyssey Plans which describes why we should ideate 3 potential lives depending on different jobs you choose.
I’m still at an early stage of drafting those hypothesis but it feels me with energy to know that several paths are possible.
This also reminds me of Sliding Doors, a movie starring Gwyneth Paltrow (1998) where the main character live 2 parallel lives. We witness what happens if she takes the subway or misses it.
I’m still not sure why this film made such an impact on me. Maybe it’s because I can identify precisely those turning points when my life could have been so different. For example when I decided to stay in Senegal after my first contract ended.
We have all had a “sliding door” moment in our life, or many of them.
For now I don’t know if i’ll get on that subway or wait for the next one !
