I’m curious about everything related to brain hacks, how to create positive thoughts and overcome self doubt. I didn’t know about Mel Robbins (a bestselling author and speaker) before I heard her interview in Lewis Howes’ podcast The School of Greatness. Her most popular book is the 5 seconds’ rule.
Mel Robbins is back with a new “5 seconds” free proven tool that feels so powerful, i’m trying it from today. It’s the High Five rule, you simply high five your reflection in the mirror every morning. She recommends to try it at least for 5 days in a row to experience a change in your feelings and behaviours.
Listen to The High 5 Habit & The Secret To Motivation w/ Mel Robbins EP 1170
In the interview, she touches upon how to stop engaging with negative self talk which is something I’ve made good progress on but this is an ongoing journey and worth improving.
She explains in depth why the High Five rules work and mentions science research findings that demonstrated the effects of the high five on our brain. This is associated with positive emotions, success, confidence so, doing this simple gesture rewire our neural system in a positive way.
“If you start to high five yourself and tell yourself that you deserve to be happy and you deserve to be fulfilled, you will start to see reasons for it.” @melrobbins
I already wrote about my tendency to listen to several podcasts or read interviews with the same author when they publish a new book (read my post A pledge to apply more common sense). I find it interesting to see how they frame the key take away from their book. I also enjoy spotting similarities and differences depending on the host. Hence, reading in Gretchen Rubin’s newsletter about her interviewing Mel Robbins, I also read it and found it insightuful as well.
Mel Robbins: “I Raise My Hand and High Five My Reflection.”
One answer stuck with me as it reflects my own personal experience, no one is responsible for my happiness and I’m not responsible for theirs.
What’s something you know now about happiness that you didn’t know when you were 18 years old?
That I'm not responsible for anyone else's happiness and they're not responsible for mine.
